When replacing a disk with non-wholedisk spare, we shouldn't zero_label it. The wholedisk case already skip it. In fact, zero_label function will fail saying device busy because it's already opened exclusively, but since there's no error checking, the replace command will succeed, causing great confusion. ZFS is an advanced file system and volume manager which was originally
developed for Solaris and is now maintained by the Illumos community.
ZFS on Linux, which is also known as ZoL, is currently feature complete. It includes fully functional and stable SPA, DMU, ZVOL, and ZPL layers. And it's native!
