0f4b9a5806 Merge branch 'kstat'
This branch updates the existing kstat infrastructure to be
more flexible. In particular, it extends the KSTAT_TYPE_RAW
type so it may be used to generate more dynamic kstats without
the need for additional custom types.

f483a97a41 3537 add kstat_waitq_enter and friends
These kstat interfaces are required to port
"Illumos #3537 want pool io kstats" to ZFS on Linux.

kstat_waitq_enter()
kstat_waitq_exit()
kstat_runq_enter()
kstat_runq_exit()

Additionally, zero out the ks_data buffer in __kstat_create() so
that the kstat_io_t counters are initialized to zero.

ffbf0e57c2 Kstat to use private lock by default
While porting Illumos #3537 I found that ks_lock member of kstat_t
structure is different between Illumos and SPL. It is a pointer to
the kmutex_t in Illumos, but the mutex lock itself in SPL.
Apparently Illumos kstat API allows consumer to override the lock
if required. With SPL implementation it is not possible anymore.

Things were alright until the first attempt to actually override
the lock. Porting of Illumos #3537 introduced such code for the
first time.

In order to provide the Solaris/Illumos like functionality we:
  1. convert ks_lock to "kmutex_t *ks_lock"
  2. create a new field "kmutex_t ks_private_lock"
  3. On kstat_create() ks_lock = &ks_private_lock

Thus if consumer doesn't care we still have our internal lock in use.
If, however, consumer does care she has a chance to set ks_lock to
anything else before calling kstat_install().

The rest of the code will use ks_lock regardless of its origin.

11cb9d773f Increase default udev wait time
When creating a new pool, or adding/replacing a disk in an existing
pool, partition tables will be automatically created on the devices.
Under normal circumstances it will take less than a second for udev
to create the expected device files under /dev/. However, it has
been observed that if the system is doing heavy IO concurrently udev
may take far longer. If you also throw in some cheap dodgy hardware
it may take even longer.

To prevent zpool commands from failing due to this the default wait
time for udev is being increased to 30 seconds. This will have no
impact on normal usage, the increase timeout should only be noticed
if your udev rules are incorrectly configured.

fbcb768c8f Add missing dsl pool configuration lock
The semantics introduced by the restructured sync task of illumos
3464 require this lock when calling dmu_snapshot_list_next().
The pool is locked/unlocked for each iteration to reduce the
chance of long-running locks.

This was accidentally missed when doing the original port because
ZoL's control directory code is Linux-specific and is in a
different file than in illumos.

Porting notes:

This fixes an upstream regression that was introduced in commit
zfsonlinux/zfs@e51be06697, which
ported the Illumos 3552 changes. This fix was added to upstream
rather quickly, but at the time of the port, no one spotted it and
the race was rare enough that it passed our regression tests. I
discovered this when comparing our metaslab.c to the illumos
metaslab.c.

Without this change it is possible for metaslab_group_alloc() to
consume a large amount of cpu time. Since this occurs under a
mutex in a rcu critical section the kernel will log this to the
console as a self-detected cpu stall as follows:

  INFO: rcu_sched self-detected stall on CPU { 0}

56d40a686b Add callbacks for displaying KSTAT_TYPE_RAW kstats
The current implementation for displaying kstats of type KSTAT_TYPE_RAW
is rather crude. This patch attempts to enhance this handling by
allowing a kstat user to register formatting callbacks which can
optionally be used.

The callbacks allow the user to implement functions for interpreting
their data and transposing it into a character buffer. This buffer,
containing a string representation of the raw data, is then be displayed
through the current /proc textual interface.

Additionally the kstats are made writable because it's now possible
to provide a useful handler via the existing ks_update() interface.

a6ce1eae54 Fix libzfs_core changes to follow GNU libtool guidelines
The GNU libtool documentation states to start with a version of 0:0:0,
rather than 1:1:0. Illumos uses the name libzfs_core.so.1, so to be
consistent, we should go with 1:0:0.

http://www.gnu.org/software/libtool/manual/libtool.html#Updating-version-info

The GNU libtool documentation also provides guidence on how the version
information should be incremented. Doing this does a SONAME bump of the
libzfs and libzpool libraries. This is particularly important on Gentoo
because a SONAME bump enables portage to retain the older libraries
until any packages that link to them are rebuilt. The main example of
this is GRUB2's grub2-mkconfig, which will break unless it is rebuilt
against the new libraries.

31fc19399e Generate libraries with correct DT_NEEDED entries
Libraries that depend on other libraries should list them in ELF's
DT_NEEDED field so that programs linking to them do not need to specify
those libraries unless they depend on them as well. This is not the case
in the current code and the consequence is that anything that needs a
library must know its dependencies. This is fragile and caused GRUB2's
configure script to break when a dependency was added on libblkid in
libzfs.

This resolves that problem by using LIBADD/LDADD to specify libraries in
Makefile.am instead of LDFLAGS. This ensures that proper DT_NEEDED
entries are generated and prevents GRUB2's configure script from
breaking in the presence of a libblkid dependency. This also removes
unneeded dependencies from various files.

1db7b9be75 Fix libblkid support
libblkid support is dormant because the autotools check is broken and
liblkid identifies ZFS vdevs as "zfs_member", not "zfs". We fix that
with a few changes:

First, we fix the libblkid autotools check to do a few things:

1. Make a 64MB file, which is the minimum size ZFS permits.
2. Make 4 fake uberblock entries to make libblkid's check succeed.
3. Return 0 upon success to make autotools use the success case.
4. Include stdlib.h to avoid implicit declration of free().
5. Check for "zfs_member", not "zfs"
6. Make --with-blkid disable autotools check (avoids Gentoo sandbox violation)
7. Pass '-lblkid' correctly using LIBS not LDFLAGS.

Second, we change the libblkid support to scan for "zfs_member", not
"zfs".

This makes --with-blkid work on Gentoo.

429fe89cee Consistently use local_irq_disable/local_irq_enable
It was observed that spl_kmem_cache_alloc() uses local_irq_save()
and saves the interrupt state in a local variable. This would
normally be fine except that spl_kmem_cache_alloc() calls
spl_cache_refill() which re-enables interrupts. It is then
possible that while interrupts are enabled the process is
rescheduled to a different cpu before being disable again.
This could result in us restoring the saved interrupt state
from one cpu to another.

What the consequences of this are aren't perfectly clear, but
this is clearly a bug and it has the potential to cause issues.
The code has been updated to just use local_irq_enable() and
local_irq_disable() to avoid this.

f9f3f1ef98 Removing unneeded mutex for reading vq_pending_tree size
Locking mutex &vq->vq_lock in vdev_mirror_pending is unneeded:

* no data is modified
* only vq_pending_tree is read
* in case garbage is returned (eg. vq_pending_tree being updated
  while the read is made) the worst case would be that a single
  read could be queued on a mirror side which more busy than thought

The benefit of this change is streamlining of the code path since

77831e1738 Reduce the stack usage of dsl_dataset_remove_clones_key
dataset_remove_clones_key does recursion, so if the recursion goes
deep it can overrun the linux kernel stack size of 8KB. I have seen
this happen in the actual deployment, and subsequently confirmed it by

This change reduces the stack usage in dsl_dataset_remove_clones_key
by allocating structures in heap, not in stack. This is not a fundamental
fix, as one can create an arbitrary large data set that runs over any
fixed size stack, but this will make the problem far less likely.

Porting notes:

WARNING: This patch changes the user/kernel ABI. That means that
the zfs/zpool utilities built from master are NOT compatible with
the 0.6.2 kernel modules. Ensure you load the matching kernel
modules from master after updating the utilities. Otherwise the
zfs/zpool commands will be unable to interact with your pool and
you will see errors similar to the following:

  $ zpool list
  failed to read pool configuration: bad address
  no pools available

  $ zfs list
  no datasets available

Add zvol minor device creation to the new zfs_snapshot_nvl function.

Remove the logging of the "release" operation in
dsl_dataset_user_release_sync(). The logging caused a null dereference
because ds->ds_dir is zeroed in dsl_dataset_destroy_sync() and the
logging functions try to get the ds name via the dsl_dataset_name()
function. I've got no idea why this particular code would have worked
in Illumos. This code has subsequently been completely reworked in
Illumos commit 3b2aab1 (3464 zfs synctask code needs restructuring).

Squash some "may be used uninitialized" warning/erorrs.

Fix some printf format warnings for %lld and %llu.

3115 fixes.

Add a missing call to fnvlist_free(nvl) in log_internal() that was added
in Illumos to fix issue 3085 but couldn't be ported to ZoL at the time
(zfsonlinux/zfs@9e11c73) because it depended on future work.

bff32e0972 Implement database to workaround misreported physical sector sizes
This implements vdev_bdev_database_check(). It alters the detected
sector size of any device listed in a database of drives known to lie
about their physical sector sizes.

This is based on "6931570 Add flash devices' VID/PID to disk table to
advertising 4K physical sector size" from Open Solaris and on
sg_simple4.c from sg3_utils. About two dozen lines are taken from
sg_simple4.c, which is GPLv2 licensed. However, sg_simple4.c is
analogous to a Hello World program and is safe for us to use. We
requested that Douglas Gilbert, the author of sg_simple4.c, confirm that
this is the case. A cutdown version of his response is as follows:

```
I would consider a SCSI INQUIRY example using the Linux sg
driver interface (also written by me) as the equivalent of an
"hello world" program in C.
```

The database was created with the help of the freenode and ZFSOnLinux
communities.

Some notes:

1. The following drives both were confirmed to lie via reports in IRC
and they contain capacity information in their identifiers:

INTEL SSDSA2M080
INTEL SSDSA2M160
M4-CT256M4SSD2
WDC WD15EARS-00S
WDC WD15EARS-00Z
WDC WD20EARS-00M

The identifiers for different capacity models were extrapolated and
added under the assumption that those models also lie. Google was used
to verify that the extrapolated drive identifiers existed prior to their
inclusion.

2. The OCZ-VERTEX2 3.5 identifer applies to two drives that differ
solely in page size (and slightly in capacity). One uses 4096-byte pages
and the other uses 8192-byte pages. Both are set to use 8192-byte pages.
We could detect the page size by checking the capacity, but that would
unnecessarily complicate the code.

3. It is possible for updated drive firmware to correctly report the
sector size. There were reports of a few advanced format drives doing
that. One report stated that the vendor changed the identification
string while another was unclear on this. Both reports involved WDC
models.

4. Google was used to determine the size of pages in the listed flash
devices. Reports of 8192-byte pages took precedence over reports of
4096-byte pages.

5. Devices behind USB adapters can have their identification strings
altered. Identification strings obtained across USB adapters are
omitted and no attempt is made to correct for alterations made by USB
adapters when doing comparisons against the database. Two entries in the
Open Solaris database that appear to have been altered by a USB
adapter were omitted.

0f37d0c8be Linux 3.11 compat: fops->iterate()
Commit torvalds/linux@2233f31aad
replaced ->readdir() with ->iterate() in struct file_operations.
All filesystems must now use the new ->iterate method.

To handle this the code was reworked to use the new ->iterate
interface. Care was taken to keep the majority of changes
confined to the ZPL layer which is already Linux specific.
However, minor changes were required to the common zfs_readdir()
function.

Compatibility with older kernels was accomplished by adding
versions of the trivial dir_emit* helper functions. Also the
various *_readdir() functions were reworked in to wrappers
which create a dir_context structure to pass to the new
*_iterate() functions.

Unfortunately, the new dir_emit* functions prevent us from
passing a private pointer to the filldir function. The xattr
directory code leveraged this ability through zfs_readdir()
to generate the list of xattr names. Since we can no longer
use zfs_readdir() a simplified zpl_xattr_readdir() function
was added to perform the same task.

34e143323e Fix z_wr_iss_h zio_execute() import hang
Because we need to be more frugal about our stack usage under
Linux. The __zio_execute() function was modified to re-dispatch
zios to a ZIO_TASKQ_ISSUE thread when we're in a context which
is known to be stack heavy. Those two contexts are the sync
thread and what ever thread is performing spa initialization.

Unfortunately, this change introduced an unlikely bug which can
result in a zio being re-dispatched indefinitely and never being
executed. If during spa initialization we handle a zio with
ZIO_PRIORITY_NOW it will be moved to the high priority queue.
When __zio_execute() is called again for the zio it will mis-
interpret the context and re-dispatch it again. The system
will get stuck spinning re-dispatching the zio and making no
forward progress.

To fix this rare issue __zio_execute() has been updated not
to re-dispatch zios on either the ZIO_TASKQ_ISSUE or
ZIO_TASKQ_ISSUE_HIGH task queues.

In practice this issue was rarely reported and can usually
be fixed by rebooting the system and importing the pool again.

fb5c53ea65 Fix for re-reading /etc/mtab in zfs_is_mounted()
When /etc/mtab is updated on Linux it's done atomically with
rename(2). A new mtab is written, the existing mtab is unlinked,
and the new mtab is renamed to /etc/mtab. This means that we
must close the old file and open the new file to get the updated

Notes on porting to ZFS on Linux:

The original changeset mostly deals with mdb ::zio dcmd.
However, in order to provide the requested functionality
it modifies vdev and zio structures to keep the timing data
in nanoseconds instead of ticks. It is these changes that
are ported over in the commit in hand.

One visible change of this commit is that the default value
of 'zfs_vdev_time_shift' tunable is changed:

    zfs_vdev_time_shift = 6
        to
    zfs_vdev_time_shift = 29

The original value of 6 was inherited from OpenSolaris and
was subotimal - since it shifted the raw tick value - it
didn't compensate for different tick frequencies on Linux and
OpenSolaris. The former has HZ=1000, while the latter HZ=100.

(Which itself led to other interesting performance anomalies
under non-trivial load. The deadline scheduler delays the IO
according to its priority - the lower priority the further
the deadline is set. The delay is measured in units of
"shifted ticks". Since the HZ value was 10 times higher,
the delay units were 10 times shorter. Thus really low
priority IO like resilver (delay is 10 units) and scrub
(delay is 20 units) were scheduled much sooner than intended.
The overall effect is that resilver and scrub IO consumed
more bandwidth at the expense of the other IO.)

Now that the bookkeeping is done is nanoseconds the shift
behaves correctly for any tick frequency (HZ).

570d6edf1d Linux 3.8 compat: Support CONFIG_UIDGID_STRICT_TYPE_CHECKS
When CONFIG_UIDGID_STRICT_TYPE_CHECKS is enabled uid_t/git_t are
replaced by kuid_t/kgid_t, which are structures instead of integral
types. This causes any code that uses an integral type to fail to build.
The User Namespace functionality introduced in Linux 3.8 requires
CONFIG_UIDGID_STRICT_TYPE_CHECKS, so we could not build against any
kernel that supported it.

We resolve this by converting between the new kuid_t/kgid_t structures
and the original uid_t/gid_t types.
