Prakash Surya d801db1487 Move spl.release generation to configure step
Previously, the spl.release file was created at 'make install' time.
This is slightly problematic when the file is needed without running
'make install'. Because of this, the step creating the file was removed
from 'make install' and replaced with a more appropriate spl.release.in
file.

As a result, the spl.release file will now be created earlier as part
of the 'configure' step as opposed to the 'make install' step.

The Solaris Porting Layer (SPL) is a Linux kernel module which provides many of the Solaris kernel APIs. This shim layer makes it possible to run Solaris kernel code in the Linux kernel with relatively minimal modification. This can be particularly useful when you want to track upstream Solaris development closely and dont want the overhead of maintaining a large patch which converts Solaris primitives to Linux primitives.

To build packages for your distribution:

$ ./configure
$ make pkg

Full documentation for building, configuring, and using the SPL can be found at: http://zfsonlinux.org
