Lock contention, by itself, shouldn't indicate a stop condition to the kernel's slab shrinker. Doing so can cause stalls when the kernel is trying to free large parts of the cache such as is done by drop_caches Also, perhaps arc_reclaim_lock should be a spinlock, and this code eliminated. ZFS is an advanced file system and volume manager which was originally
developed for Solaris and is now maintained by the Illumos community.
ZFS on Linux, which is also known as ZoL, is currently feature complete. It includes fully functional and stable SPA, DMU, ZVOL, and ZPL layers. And it's native!
