599b864813 Fix ENOSPC in "Handle zap_add() failures in ..."
Commit cc63068 caused ENOSPC error when copy a large amount of files
between two directories. The reason is that the patch limits zap leaf
expansion to 2 retries, and return ENOSPC when failed.

The intent for limiting retries is to prevent pointlessly growing table
to max size when adding a block full of entries with same name in
different case in mixed mode. However, it turns out we cannot use any
limit on the retry. When we copy files from one directory in readdir
order, we are copying in hash order, one leaf block at a time. Which
means that if the leaf block in source directory has expanded 6 times,
and you copy those entries in that block, by the time you need to expand
the leaf in destination directory, you need to expand it 6 times in one
go. So any limit on the retry will result in error where it shouldn't.

Note that while we do use different salt for different directories, it
seems that the salt/hash function doesn't provide enough randomization
to the hash distance to prevent this from happening.

Since cc63068 has already been reverted. This patch adds it back and
removes the retry limit.

Also, as it turn out, failing on zap_add() has a serious side effect for
mzap_upgrade(). When upgrading from micro zap to fat zap, it will
call zap_add() to transfer entries one at a time. If it hit any error
halfway through, the remaining entries will be lost, causing those files
to become orphan. This patch add a VERIFY to catch it.

OpenZFS 7614 - zfs device evacuation/removal
OpenZFS 9064 - remove_mirror should wait for device removal to complete

This project allows top-level vdevs to be removed from the storage pool
with "zpool remove", reducing the total amount of storage in the pool.
This operation copies all allocated regions of the device to be removed
onto other devices, recording the mapping from old to new location.
After the removal is complete, read and free operations to the removed
(now "indirect") vdev must be remapped and performed at the new location
on disk.  The indirect mapping table is kept in memory whenever the pool
is loaded, so there is minimal performance overhead when doing operations
on the indirect vdev.

The size of the in-memory mapping table will be reduced when its entries
become "obsolete" because they are no longer used by any block pointers
in the pool.  An entry becomes obsolete when all the blocks that use
it are freed.  An entry can also become obsolete when all the snapshots
that reference it are deleted, and the block pointers that reference it
have been "remapped" in all filesystems/zvols (and clones).  Whenever an
indirect block is written, all the block pointers in it will be "remapped"
to their new (concrete) locations if possible.  This process can be
accelerated by using the "zfs remap" command to proactively rewrite all
indirect blocks that reference indirect (removed) vdevs.

Note that when a device is removed, we do not verify the checksum of
the data that is copied.  This makes the process much faster, but if it
were used on redundant vdevs (i.e. mirror or raidz vdevs), it would be
possible to copy the wrong data, when we have the correct data on e.g.
the other side of the mirror.

At the moment, only mirrors and simple top-level vdevs can be removed
and no removal is allowed if any of the top-level vdevs are raidz.

Porting Notes:

* Avoid zero-sized kmem_alloc() in vdev_compact_children().

    The device evacuation code adds a dependency that
    vdev_compact_children() be able to properly empty the vdev_child
    array by setting it to NULL and zeroing vdev_children.  Under Linux,
    kmem_alloc() and related functions return a sentinel pointer rather
    than NULL for zero-sized allocations.

* Remove comment regarding "mpt" driver where zfs_remove_max_segment
  is initialized to SPA_MAXBLOCKSIZE.

  Change zfs_condense_indirect_commit_entry_delay_ticks to
  zfs_condense_indirect_commit_entry_delay_ms for consistency with
  most other tunables in which delays are specified in ms.

* ZTS changes:

    Use set_tunable rather than mdb
    Use zpool sync as appropriate
    Use sync_pool instead of sync
    Kill jobs during test_removal_with_operation to allow unmount/export
    Don't add non-disk names such as "mirror" or "raidz" to $DISKS
    Use $TEST_BASE_DIR instead of /tmp
    Increase HZ from 100 to 1000 which is more common on Linux

    removal_multiple_indirection.ksh
        Reduce iterations in order to not time out on the code
        coverage builders.

    removal_resume_export:
        Functionally, the test case is correct but there exists a race
        where the kernel thread hasn't been fully started yet and is
        not visible.  Wait for up to 1 second for the removal thread
        to be started before giving up on it.  Also, increase the
        amount of data copied in order that the removal not finish
        before the export has a chance to fail.

* MMP compatibility, the concept of concrete versus non-concrete devices
  has slightly changed the semantics of vdev_writeable().  Update
  mmp_random_leaf_impl() accordingly.

* Updated dbuf_remap() to handle the org.zfsonlinux:large_dnode pool
  feature which is not supported by OpenZFS.

* Added support for new vdev removal tracepoints.

* Test cases removal_with_zdb and removal_condense_export have been
  intentionally disabled.  When run manually they pass as intended,
  but when running in the automated test environment they produce
  unreliable results on the latest Fedora release.

  They may work better once the upstream pool import refectoring is
  merged into ZoL at which point they will be re-enabled.

Fix mmap / libaio deadlock
Calling uiomove() in mappedread() under the page lock can result
in a deadlock if the user space page needs to be faulted in.

Resolve the issue by dropping the page lock before the uiomove().
The inode range lock protects against concurrent updates via
zfs_read() and zfs_write().

2705ebf0a7 Misc fixes and cleanup for project quota
1) The Coverity Scan reports some issues for the project
   quota patch, including:

1.1) zfs_prop_get_userquota() directly uses the const quota
   type value as the condition check by wrong.

1.2) dmu_objset_userquota_get_ids() may cause dnode::dn_newgid
   to be overwritten by dnode::dn->dn_oldprojid.

2) This patch fixes related issues. It also enhances the logic
   for zfs_project_item_alloc() to avoid buffer overflow.

3) Skip project quota ability check if does not change project
   quota related things (id or flag). Otherwise, it will cause
   chattr (for other non project quota flags) operation failed
   if project quota disabled.

9c5167d19f Project Quota on ZFS
Project quota is a new ZFS system space/object usage accounting
and enforcement mechanism. Similar as user/group quota, project
quota is another dimension of system quota. It bases on the new
object attribute - project ID.

Project ID is a numerical value to indicate to which project an
object belongs. An object only can belong to one project though
you (the object owner or privileged user) can change the object
project ID via 'chattr -p' or 'zfs project [-s] -p' explicitly.
The object also can inherit the project ID from its parent when
created if the parent has the project inherit flag (that can be
set via 'chattr +P' or 'zfs project -s [-p]').

By accounting the spaces/objects belong to the same project, we
can know how many spaces/objects used by the project. And if we
set the upper limit then we can control the spaces/objects that
are consumed by such project. It is useful when multiple groups
and users cooperate for the same project, or a user/group needs
to participate in multiple projects.

Support the following commands and functionalities:

zfs set projectquota@project
zfs set projectobjquota@project

zfs get projectquota@project
zfs get projectobjquota@project

zfs project [-p id] [-r] [-s] <file|directory ...>

For "df [-i] $DIR" command, if we set INHERIT (project ID) flag on
the $DIR, then the proejct [obj]quota and [obj]used values for the
$DIR's project ID will be shown as the total/free (avail) resource.
Keep the same behavior as EXT4/XFS does.

cc63068e95 Handle zap_add() failures in mixed case mode
With "casesensitivity=mixed", zap_add() could fail when the number of
files/directories with the same name (varying in case) exceed the
capacity of the leaf node of a Fatzap. This results in a ASSERT()
failure as zfs_link_create() does not expect zap_add() to fail. The fix
is to handle these failures and rollback the transactions.

0735ecb334 OpenZFS 8997 - ztest assertion failure in zil_lwb_write_issue
PROBLEM
=======

When `dmu_tx_assign` is called from `zil_lwb_write_issue`, it's possible
for either `ERESTART` or `EIO` to be returned.

If `ERESTART` is returned, this will cause an assertion to fail directly
in `zil_lwb_write_issue`, where the code assumes the return value is
`EIO` if `dmu_tx_assign` returns a non-zero value. This can occur if the
SPA is suspended when `dmu_tx_assign` is called, and most often occurs
when running `zloop`.

If `EIO` is returned, this can cause assertions to fail elsewhere in the
ZIL code. For example, `zil_commit_waiter_timeout` contains the
following logic:

    lwb_t *nlwb = zil_lwb_write_issue(zilog, lwb);
    ASSERT3S(lwb->lwb_state, !=, LWB_STATE_OPENED);

In this case, if `dmu_tx_assign` returned `EIO` from within
`zil_lwb_write_issue`, the `lwb` variable passed in will not be issued
to disk. Thus, it's `lwb_state` field will remain `LWB_STATE_OPENED` and
this assertion will fail. `zil_commit_waiter_timeout` assumes that after
it calls `zil_lwb_write_issue`, the `lwb` will be issued to disk, and
doesn't handle the case where this is not true; i.e. it doesn't handle
the case where `dmu_tx_assign` returns `EIO`.

SOLUTION
========

This change modifies the `dmu_tx_assign` function such that `txg_how` is
a bitmask, rather than of the `txg_how_t` enum type. Now, the previous
`TXG_WAITED` semantics can be used via `TXG_NOTHROTTLE`, along with
specifying either `TXG_NOWAIT` or `TXG_WAIT` semantics.

Previously, when `TXG_WAITED` was specified, `TXG_NOWAIT` semantics was
automatically invoked. This was not ideal when using `TXG_WAITED` within
`zil_lwb_write_issued`, leading the problem described above. Rather, we
want to achieve the semantics of `TXG_WAIT`, while also preventing the
`tx` from being penalized via the dirty delay throttling.

With this change, `zil_lwb_write_issued` can acheive the semtantics that
it requires by passing in the value `TXG_WAIT | TXG_NOTHROTTLE` to
`dmu_tx_assign`.

Further, consumers of `dmu_tx_assign` wishing to achieve the old
`TXG_WAITED` semantics can pass in the value `TXG_NOWAIT | TXG_NOTHROTTLE`.

Problem
=======

The current implementation of zil_commit() can introduce significant
latency, beyond what is inherent due to the latency of the underlying
storage. The additional latency comes from two main problems:

 1. When there's outstanding ZIL blocks being written (i.e. there's
    already a "writer thread" in progress), then any new calls to
    zil_commit() will block waiting for the currently oustanding ZIL
    blocks to complete. The blocks written for each "writer thread" is
    coined a "batch", and there can only ever be a single "batch" being
    written at a time. When a batch is being written, any new ZIL
    transactions will have to wait for the next batch to be written,
    which won't occur until the current batch finishes.

    As a result, the underlying storage may not be used as efficiently
    as possible. While "new" threads enter zil_commit() and are blocked
    waiting for the next batch, it's possible that the underlying
    storage isn't fully utilized by the current batch of ZIL blocks. In
    that case, it'd be better to allow these new threads to generate
    (and issue) a new ZIL block, such that it could be serviced by the
    underlying storage concurrently with the other ZIL blocks that are
    being serviced.

 2. Any call to zil_commit() must wait for all ZIL blocks in its "batch"
    to complete, prior to zil_commit() returning. The size of any given
    batch is proportional to the number of ZIL transaction in the queue
    at the time that the batch starts processing the queue; which
    doesn't occur until the previous batch completes. Thus, if there's a
    lot of transactions in the queue, the batch could be composed of
    many ZIL blocks, and each call to zil_commit() will have to wait for
    all of these writes to complete (even if the thread calling
    zil_commit() only cared about one of the transactions in the batch).

To further complicate the situation, these two issues result in the
following side effect:

 3. If a given batch takes longer to complete than normal, this results
    in larger batch sizes, which then take longer to complete and
    further drive up the latency of zil_commit(). This can occur for a
    number of reasons, including (but not limited to): transient changes
    in the workload, and storage latency irregularites.

Solution
========

The solution attempted by this change has the following goals:

 1. no on-disk changes; maintain current on-disk format.
 2. modify the "batch size" to be equal to the "ZIL block size".
 3. allow new batches to be generated and issued to disk, while there's
    already batches being serviced by the disk.
 4. allow zil_commit() to wait for as few ZIL blocks as possible.
 5. use as few ZIL blocks as possible, for the same amount of ZIL
    transactions, without introducing significant latency to any
    individual ZIL transaction. i.e. use fewer, but larger, ZIL blocks.

In theory, with these goals met, the new allgorithm will allow the
following improvements:

 1. new ZIL blocks can be generated and issued, while there's already
    oustanding ZIL blocks being serviced by the storage.
 2. the latency of zil_commit() should be proportional to the underlying
    storage latency, rather than the incoming synchronous workload.

Porting Notes
=============

Due to the changes made in commit 119a394ab0, the lifetime of an itx
structure differs than in OpenZFS. Specifically, the itx structure is
kept around until the data associated with the itx is considered to be
safe on disk; this is so that the itx's callback can be called after the
data is committed to stable storage. Since OpenZFS doesn't have this itx
callback mechanism, it's able to destroy the itx structure immediately
after the itx is committed to an lwb (before the lwb is written to
disk).

To support this difference, and to ensure the itx's callbacks can still
be called after the itx's data is on disk, a few changes had to be made:

  * A list of itxs was added to the lwb structure. This list contains
    all of the itxs that have been committed to the lwb, such that the
    callbacks for these itxs can be called from zil_lwb_flush_vdevs_done(),
    after the data for the itxs is committed to disk.

  * A list of itxs was added on the stack of the zil_process_commit_list()
    function; the "nolwb_itxs" list. In some circumstances, an itx may
    not be committed to an lwb (e.g. if allocating the "next" ZIL block
    on disk fails), so this list is used to keep track of which itxs
    fall into this state, such that their callbacks can be called after
    the ZIL's writer pipeline is "stalled".

  * The logic to actually call the itx's callback was moved into the
    zil_itx_destroy() function. Since all consumers of zil_itx_destroy()
    were effectively performing the same logic (i.e. if callback is
    non-null, call the callback), it seemed like useful code cleanup to
    consolidate this logic into a single function.

Additionally, the existing Linux tracepoint infrastructure dealing with
the ZIL's probes and structures had to be updated to reflect these code
changes. Specifically:

  * The "zil__cw1" and "zil__cw2" probes were removed, so they had to be
    removed from "trace_zil.h" as well.

  * Some of the zilog structure's fields were removed, which affected
    the tracepoint definitions of the structure.

  * New tracepoints had to be added for the following 3 new probes:
      * zil__process__commit__itx
      * zil__process__normal__itx
      * zil__commit__io__error

99834d1950 Fix truncate(2) mtime and ctime handling
On Linux, ftruncate(2) always changes the file timestamps, even if the
file size is not changed. However, in case of a successfull
truncate(2), the timestamps are updated only if the file size changes.
This translates to the VFS calling the ZFS Posix Layer "setattr"
function (zpl_setattr) with ATTR_MTIME and ATTR_CTIME unconditionally
set on the iattr mask only when doing a ftruncate(2), while the
truncate(2) is left to the filesystem implementation to be dealt with.

This behaviour is consistent with POSIX:2004/SUSv3 specifications
where there's no explicit requirement for file size changes to update
the timestamps only for ftruncate(2):

Unfortunately the Linux VFS is still calling into the ZPL without
ATTR_MTIME/ATTR_CTIME set in the truncate(2) case: we fix this by
explicitly updating the timestamps when detecting the ATTR_SIZE bit,
which is always set in do_truncate(), on the iattr mask.

440a3eb939 Fixes for #6639
Several issues were uncovered by running stress tests with zfs
encryption and raw sends in particular. The issues and their
associated fixes are as follows:

* arc_read_done() has the ability to chain several requests for
  the same block of data via the arc_callback_t struct. In these
  cases, the ARC would only use the first request's dsobj from
  the bookmark to decrypt the data. This is problematic because
  the first request might be a prefetch zio which is able to
  handle the key not being loaded, while the second might use a
  different key that it is sure will work. The fix here is to
  pass the dsobj with each individual arc_callback_t so that each
  request can attempt to decrypt the data separately.

* DRR_FREE and DRR_FREEOBJECT records in a send file were not
  having their transactions properly tagged as raw during raw
  sends, which caused a panic when the dbuf code attempted to
  decrypt these blocks.

* traverse_prefetch_metadata() did not properly set
  ZIO_FLAG_SPECULATIVE when issuing prefetch IOs.

* Added a few asserts and code cleanups to ensure these issues
  are more detectable in the future.

Currently `if` statement includes an assignment (from a function return
value) and a equality check. The parenthesis are in the incorrect place,
currently the code clobbers the function return value because of this.

We can fix this by simplifying the `if` statement.

`if (foo != 0)`

can be more succinctly expressed as

`if (foo)`

Remove the equality check, add parenthesis to correct the statement.

f763c3d1df Fix range locking in ZIL commit codepath
Since OpenZFS 7578 (1b7c1e5) if we have a ZVOL with logbias=throughput
we will force WR_INDIRECT itxs in zvol_log_write() setting itx->itx_lr
offset and length to the offset and length of the BIO from
zvol_write()->zvol_log_write(): these offset and length are later used
to take a range lock in zillog->zl_get_data function: zvol_get_data().

Now suppose we have a ZVOL with blocksize=8K and push 4K writes to
offset 0: we will only be range-locking 0-4096. This means the
ASSERTion we make in dbuf_unoverride() is no longer valid because now
dmu_sync() is called from zilog's get_data functions holding a partial
lock on the dbuf.

Fix this by taking a range lock on the whole block in zvol_get_data().

The problem is that zfs_get_data() supplies a stale zgd_bp to
dmu_sync(), which we then nopwrite against.
zfs_get_data() doesn't hold any DMU-related locks, so after it
copies db_blkptr to zgd_bp, dbuf_write_ready() could change
db_blkptr, and dbuf_write_done() could remove the dirty record.
dmu_sync() then sees the stale BP and that the dbuf it not dirty,
so it is eligible for nop-writing.
The fix is for dmu_sync() to copy db_blkptr to zgd_bp after
acquiring the db_mtx. We could still see a stale db_blkptr,
but if it is stale then the dirty record will still exist and
thus we won't attempt to nopwrite.

66aca24730 SEEK_HOLE should not block on txg_wait_synced()
Force flushing of txg's can be painfully slow when competing for disk
IO, since this is a process meant to execute asynchronously. Optimize
this path via allowing data/hole seeking if the file is clean, but if
dirty fall back to old logic. This is a compromise to disabling the
feature entirely.

Align the zfs_vnops.h and zfs_vfsops.h with upstream as much
as possible.  Several prototypes were removed and those that
remain were reordered.

Move the EXPORT_SYMBOL lines to the end of the source files
for consistency with the other source files.

9b77d1c958 Fix nfs snapdir automount
The current implementation for allowing nfs to access snapdir is very buggy.
It uses a special fh for snapdirs, such that the next time nfsd does
fh_to_dentry, it actually returns the root inode inside the snapshot. So nfsd
never knows it cross a mountpoint.

The problem is that nfsd will not hold a reference on the vfsmount of the
snapshot. This cause auto unmounter to unmount the snapshot even though nfs is
still holding dentries in it.

To fix this, we return the inode for the snapdirs themselves. However, we also
trigger automount upon fh_to_dentry, and return ESTALE so nfsd will revalidate
and see the mountpoint and do crossmnt.

Because nfsd will now be aware that these are different filesystems users
must add crossmnt to their export options to access snapshot directories.

ace1eae84c Add support for O_TMPFILE
Linux 3.11 add O_TMPFILE to open(2), which allow creating an unlinked file on
supported filesystem. It's basically doing open(2) and unlink(2) atomically.

The filesystem support is added through i_op->tmpfile. We basically copy the
create operation except we get rid of the link and name related stuff and add
the new node to unlinked set.

We also add support for linkat(2) to link tmpfile. However, since all previous
file operation will skip ZIL, we force a txg_wait_synced to make sure we are
sync safe.

87f9371aef Simplify time handling logic in zfs_settattr
Simplify time handling in zfs_setattr by mimicking the logic in
setattr_copy from the linux kernel. In order to achieve this
in the case when ZFS' log is being replayed it is necessary
to unconditionally set the ctime in zfs_replay_setattr.

Also use the timespec_trunc function when assigning values to the
generic inode struct. This is currently a noop since zfs sets
s_time_gran to 1, however in the future rules about precision might
change.

2c6abf15ff Remove znode's z_uid/z_gid member
Remove duplicate z_uid/z_gid member which are also held in the
generic vfs inode struct. This is done by first removing the members
from struct znode and then using the KUID_TO_SUID/KGID_TO_SGID
macros to access the respective member from struct inode. In cases
where the uid/gids are being marshalled from/to disk, use the newly
introduced zfs_(uid|gid)_(read|write) functions to properly
save the uids rather than the internal kernel representation.

dfbc86309f Use native inode->i_nlink instead of znode->z_links
A mostly mechanical change, taking into account i_nlink is 32 bits vs ZFS's
64 bit on-disk link count.

We revert "xattr dir doesn't get purged during iput" (ddae16a) as this is a
more Linux-integrated fix for the same issue.

In addition, setting the initial link count on a new node has been changed
from setting one less than required in zfs_mknode() then incrementing to the
correct count in zfs_link_create() (which was somewhat bizarre in the first
place), to setting the correct count in zfs_mknode() and not incrementing it
in zfs_link_create(). This both means we no longer set the link count in
sa_bulk_update() twice (once for the initial incorrect count then again for
the correct count), as well as adhering to the Linux requirement of not
incrementing a zero link count without I_LINKABLE (see linux commit
f4e0c30c).

d88895a069 Remove dummy znode from zvol_state
struct zvol_state contains a dummy znode, which is around 1KB on x64,
only for zfs_range_lock. But in reality, other than z_range_lock and
z_range_avl, zfs_range_lock only need znode on regular file, which
means we add 1KB on a structure and gain nothing.

In this patch, we remove the dummy znode for zvol_state. In order to
do that, we also need to refactor zfs_range_lock a bit. We move
z_range_lock and z_range_avl pair out of znode_t to form zfs_rlock_t.
This new struct replaces znode_t as the main handle inside the range
lock functions.

We also add pointers to z_size, z_blksz, and z_max_blksz so range lock
code doesn't depend on znode_t.  This allows non-ZPL consumers like

da5e151f20 Add pn_alloc()/pn_free() functions
In order to remove the HAVE_PN_UTILS wrappers the pn_alloc() and
pn_free() functions must be implemented.  The existing illumos
implementation were used for this purpose.

The `flags` argument which was used in places wrapped by the
HAVE_PN_UTILS condition has beed added back to zfs_remove() and
zfs_link() functions.  This removes a small point of divergence
between the ZoL code and upstream.

704cd0758a Enable lazytime semantic for atime
Linux 4.0 introduces lazytime. The idea is that when we update the atime, we
delay writing it to disk for as long as it is reasonably possible.

When lazytime is enabled, dirty_inode will be called with only I_DIRTY_TIME
flag whenever i_atime is updated. So under such condition, we will set
z_atime_dirty. We will only write it to disk if file is closed, inode is
evicted or setattr is called. Ideally, we should also write it whenever SA
is going to be updated, but it is left for future improvement.

There's one thing that we should take care of now that we allow i_atime to be
dirty. In original implementation, whenever SA is modified, zfs_inode_update
will be called to overwrite every thing in inode. This will cause dirty
i_atime to be discarded. We fix this by don't overwrite i_atime in
zfs_inode_update. We only overwrite i_atime when allocating new inode or doing
zfs_rezget with zfs_inode_update_new.

0df9673f01 Fix atime handling and relatime
The problem for atime:

We have 3 places for atime: inode->i_atime, znode->z_atime and SA. And its
handling is a mess. A huge part of mess regarding atime comes from
zfs_tstamp_update_setup, zfs_inode_update, and zfs_getattr, which behave
inconsistently with those three values.

zfs_tstamp_update_setup clears z_atime_dirty unconditionally as long as you
don't pass ATTR_ATIME. Which means every write(2) operation which only updates
ctime and mtime will cause atime changes to not be written to disk.

Also zfs_inode_update from write(2) will replace inode->i_atime with what's
inside SA(stale). But doesn't touch z_atime. So after read(2) and write(2).
You'll have i_atime(stale), z_atime(new), SA(stale) and z_atime_dirty=0.

Now, if you do stat(2), zfs_getattr will actually replace i_atime with what's
inside, z_atime. So you will have now you'll have i_atime(new), z_atime(new),
SA(stale) and z_atime_dirty=0. These will all gone after umount. And you'll
leave with a stale atime.

The problem for relatime:

We do have a relatime config inside ZFS dataset, but how it should interact
with the mount flag MS_RELATIME is not well defined. It seems it wanted
relatime mount option to override the dataset config by showing it as
temporary in `zfs get`. But at the same time, `zfs set relatime=on|off` would
also seems to want to override the mount option. Not to mention that
MS_RELATIME flag is actually never passed into ZFS, so it never really worked.

How Linux handles atime:

The Linux kernel actually handles atime completely in VFS, except for writing
it to disk. So if we remove the atime handling in ZFS, things would just work,
no matter it's strictatime, relatime, noatime, or even O_NOATIME. And whenever
VFS updates the i_atime, it will notify the underlying filesystem via
sb->dirty_inode().

And also there's one thing to note about atime flags like MS_RELATIME and
other flags like MS_NODEV, etc. They are mount point flags rather than
filesystem(sb) flags. Since native linux filesystem can be mounted at multiple
places at the same time, they can all have different atime settings. So these
flags are never passed down to filesystem drivers.

What this patch tries to do:

We remove znode->z_atime, since we won't gain anything from it. We remove most
of the atime handling and leave it to VFS. The only thing we do with atime is
to write it when dirty_inode() or setattr() is called. We also add
file_accessed() in zpl_read() since it's not provided in vfs_read().

After this patch, only the MS_RELATIME flag will have effect. The setting in
dataset won't do anything. We will make zfstuil to mount ZFS with MS_RELATIME
set according to the setting in dataset in future patch.

8b1899d3fb Linux 4.6 compat: PAGE_CACHE_SIZE removal
As described in torvalds/linux@4a2d057e the macros
PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were originally introduced
to make it possible to add bigger chunks to the page cache.  This
never panned out and it has therefore been removed from the kernel.

ZFS has been updated to use the PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros
and calls to page_cache_release() have been replaced with put_page().

There was no need to introduce a configure check for this because
these interfaces have existed for a very long time.

a966c5640e Reintroduce zfs_remove() synchronous deletes
Reintroduce a slightly adapted version of the Illumos logic for
synchronous unlinks.  The basic idea here is that only files
smaller than zfs_delete_blocks (20480) blocks should be deleted
synchronously.  Unlinking larger files should be handled
asynchronously to minimize impact to the caller.

To accomplish this iput() which is responsible for calling
zfs_znode_delete() on Linux is only called in the delete_now
path.  Otherwise zfs_async_iput() is used which allows the
last reference to be dropped by a taskq thread effectively
making the removal asynchronous.

Porting notes:
- Add zfs_delete_blocks module option for performance analysis.
  The default value is DMU_MAX_DELETEBLKCNT which is the same
  as upstream.  Reducing this value means that smaller files
  will be unlinked asynchronously like large files.
- All occurrences of zfsvfs changes to zsb.

278bee9319 Linux 3.18 compat: Snapshot auto-mounting
Re-factor the .zfs/snapshot auto-mouting code to take in to account
changes made to the upstream kernels.  And to lay the groundwork for
enabling access to .zfs snapshots via NFS clients.  This patch makes
the following core improvements.

* All actively auto-mounted snapshots are now tracked in two global
trees which are indexed by snapshot name and objset id respectively.
This allows for fast lookups of any auto-mounted snapshot regardless
without needing access to the parent dataset.

* Snapshot entries are added to the tree in zfsctl_snapshot_mount().
However, they are now removed from the tree in the context of the
unmount process.  This eliminates the need complicated error logic
in zfsctl_snapshot_unmount() to handle unmount failures.

* References are now taken on the snapshot entries in the tree to
ensure they always remain valid while a task is outstanding.

* The MNT_SHRINKABLE flag is set on the snapshot vfsmount_t right
after the auto-mount succeeds.  This allows to kernel to unmount
idle auto-mounted snapshots if needed removing the need for the
zfsctl_unmount_snapshots() function.

* Snapshots in active use will not be automatically unmounted.  As
long as at least one dentry is revalidated every zfs_expire_snapshot/2
seconds the auto-unmount expiration timer will be extended.

* Commit torvalds/linux@bafc9b7 caused snapshots auto-mounted by ZFS
to be immediately unmounted when the dentry was revalidated.  This
was a consequence of ZFS invaliding all snapdir dentries to ensure that
negative dentries didn't mask new snapshots.  This patch modifies the
behavior such that only negative dentries are invalidated.  This solves
the issue and may result in a performance improvement.

5475aada94 Linux 4.1 compat: loop device on ZFS
Starting from Linux 4.1 allows iov_iter with bio_vec to be passed into
iter_read/iter_write. Notably, the loop device will pass bio_vec to backend
filesystem. However, current ZFS code assumes iovec without any check, so it
will always crash when using loop device.

With the restructured uio_t, we can safely pass bio_vec in uio_t with UIO_BVEC
set. The uio* functions are modified to handle bio_vec case separately.

The const uio_iov causes some warning in xuio related stuff, so explicit
convert them to non const.

21a96fb635 Fix "BUG: Bad page state" caused by writeback flag
Commit d958324 fixed the deadlock between page lock and range lock by
unlocking the page lock before acquiring the range lock. However,
this created a new issue #3075.

The problem is that if we can't set the write back bit before releasing
the page lock.  Then other processes will be unaware that the page is
under active write back.  They may therefore truncate the page,
invalidate the page, or not honor the sync semantics.

To workaround this problem we re-dirty the page before dropping the
page lock.  While this doesn't prevent the page from being truncated
it does ensure it won't be invalidated.  Then the range lock and the
page lock are reacquired in the correct deadlock-free order.

Once both locks are safely held the page state can be rechecked.  If
all is well and the page is in the expect state the dirty bit can be
removed, the write back bit set, and the page removed from the skip
count.  If not the page will be handled as appropriate.

2a53e2dacc Update inode under range lock
After a successful write the inode must be updated under the range
lock.  If it is updated after dropping the lock there exists a race
where the znode and inode wile disagree about the file size.  This
could result in narrow window of time where read(2) is able to access
data beyond what fstat(2) reports as the file size.

Porting Notes:

* Included in this patch is a tiny ISP2() cleanup in zio_init() from
Illumos 5255.

* Unlike the upstream Illumos commit this patch does not impose an
arbitrary 128K block size limit on volumes.  Volumes, like filesystems,
are limited by the zfs_max_recordsize=1M module option.

* By default the maximum record size is limited to 1M by the module
option zfs_max_recordsize.  This value may be safely increased up to
16M which is the largest block size supported by the on-disk format.
At the moment, 1M blocks clearly offer a significant performance
improvement but the benefits of going beyond this for the majority
of workloads are less clear.

* The illumos version of this patch increased DMU_MAX_ACCESS to 32M.
This was determined not to be large enough when using 16M blocks
because the zfs_make_xattrdir() function will fail (EFBIG) when
assigning a TX.  This was immediately observed under Linux because
all newly created files must have a security xattr created and
that was failing.  Therefore, we've set DMU_MAX_ACCESS to 64M.

* On 32-bit platforms a hard limit of 1M is set for blocks due
to the limited virtual address space.  We should be able to relax
this one the ABD patches are merged.

The following panic would occur under certain heavy load:

The culprit is that ZFS_EXIT(zsb) would call tsd_exit() every time, which
would purge all tsd data for the thread. However, ZFS_ENTER is designed to be
reentrant, so we cannot allow ZFS_EXIT to blindly purge tsd data.

Instead, we rely on the new behavior of tsd_set. When NULL is passed as the
new value to tsd_set, it will automatically remove the tsd entry specified the
the key for the current thread.

rrw_tsd_key and zfs_allow_log_key already calls tsd_set(key, NULL) when
they're done. The zfs_fsyncer_key relied on ZFS_EXIT(zsb) to call tsd_exit() to
do clean up. Now we explicitly call tsd_set(key, NULL) on them.

79c76d5b65 Change KM_PUSHPAGE -> KM_SLEEP
By marking DMU transaction processing contexts with PF_FSTRANS
we can revert the KM_PUSHPAGE -> KM_SLEEP changes.  This brings
us back in line with upstream.  In some cases this means simply
swapping the flags back.  For others fnvlist_alloc() was replaced
by nvlist_alloc(..., KM_PUSHPAGE) and must be reverted back to
fnvlist_alloc() which assumes KM_SLEEP.

The one place KM_PUSHPAGE is kept is when allocating ARC buffers
which allows us to dip in to reserved memory.  This is again the
same as upstream.

This is a follow up commit to 74328ee which correctly resolved a lock
inversion between zfs_putpage() and zfs_free_range().  Unfortunately,
in the process it accidentally introduced another inversion between
zfs_putpage() and zfs_read().  The page must be unlocked before taking
the range lock.  This patch corrects that issue.

In addition, because the locking rules here are subtle a block comment
has been added clearly explaining why the ordering here is critical.

There exists a lock inversions involving the zfs range lock and the
individual page writeback bits which can result in a deadlock.  To

bc151f7b31 Remove checks for mandatory locks
The Linux VFS handles mandatory locks generically so we shouldn't
need to check for conflicting locks in zfs_read(), zfs_write(), or
zfs_freesp().  Linux 3.18 removed the lock_may_read() and
lock_may_write() interfaces which we were relying on for this
purpose.  Rather than emulating those interfaces we remove the
redundant checks.

223df0161f Implement fallocate FALLOC_FL_PUNCH_HOLE
Add support for the FALLOC_FL_PUNCH_HOLE | FALLOC_FL_KEEP_SIZE mode of
fallocate(2).  Mimic the behavior of other native file systems such as
ext4 in cases where the file might be extended. If the offset is beyond
the end of the file, return success without changing the file. If the
extent of the punched hole would extend the file, only the existing tail
of the file is punched.

Add the zfs_zero_partial_page() function, modeled after update_page(),
to handle zeroing partial pages in a hole-punching operation.  It must
be used under a range lock for the requested region in order that the
ARC and page cache stay in sync.

Move the existing page cache truncation via truncate_setsize() into
zfs_freesp() for better source structure compatibility with upstream code.

Add page cache truncation to zfs_freesp() and zfs_free_range() to handle
hole punching.

1e8db77102 Fix zil_commit() NULL dereference
Update the current code to ensure inodes are never dirtied if they are
part of a read-only file system or snapshot.  If they do somehow get
dirtied an attempt will make made to write them to disk.  In the case

On Sparc sp->blksize will be a 64-bit value which is then cast
incorrectly to a 32-bit value.  For big endian systems this
results in an incorrect value for sp->blksize.  To resolve the

d1d7e2689d cstyle: Resolve C style issues
The vast majority of these changes are in Linux specific code.
They are the result of not having an automated style checker to
validate the code when it was originally written.  Others were
caused when the common code was slightly adjusted for Linux.

This patch contains no functional changes.  It only refreshes
the code to conform to style guide.

Everyone submitting patches for inclusion upstream should now
run 'make checkstyle' and resolve any warning prior to opening
a pull request.  The automated builders have been updated to
fail a build if when 'make checkstyle' detects an issue.

7dc71949f2 Fix z_sync_cnt decrement in zfs_close
The comment in zfs_close states that "Under Linux the zfs_close() hook
is not symmetric with zfs_open()". This is not true. zfs_open/zfs_close
is associated with every successful struct file creation/deletion, which
should always be balanced.

Here is an example of what's wrong:

	z_sync_cnt = 1
			open(O_SYNC)
			z_sync_cnt = 2
	close()
	z_sync_cnt = 0

So z_sync_cnt is 0 even if B still has the file with O_SYNC.

Also moves the generic_file_open call before zfs_open to ensure that in
the case generic_file_open fails z_sync_cnt is not incremented.  This
is safe because generic_file_open has no side effects.

84b0aac5fd Fix atime handling.
Previously, the atime-modifying vnops called ZFS_ACCESSTIME_STAMP()
followed by zfs_inode_update() to update the atime.  However, since atimes
are cached in the znode for delayed writing, the zfs_inode_update()
function would effectively ignore the cached atime by reading it from
the SA.

This commit moves the updating of the atime in the inode into
zfs_tstamp_update_setup() which is called by the ZFS_ACCESSTIME_STAMP()
macro and eliminates the call to zfs_inode_update() in the atime-modifying
vnops.

It's possible the same thing could have been done directly in
zfs_inode_update() but I wasn't sure that it was safe in all cases where
it is called.

The effect is that atime handling is as if "strictatime" were selected;
even if the filesystem is mounted with "relatime".

4045 zfs write throttle & i/o scheduler performance work

1. The ZFS i/o scheduler (vdev_queue.c) now divides i/os into 5 classes: sync
read, sync write, async read, async write, and scrub/resilver.  The scheduler
issues a number of concurrent i/os from each class to the device.  Once a class
has been selected, an i/o is selected from this class using either an elevator
algorithem (async, scrub classes) or FIFO (sync classes).  The number of
concurrent async write i/os is tuned dynamically based on i/o load, to achieve
good sync i/o latency when there is not a high load of writes, and good write
throughput when there is.  See the block comment in vdev_queue.c (reproduced
below) for more details.

2. The write throttle (dsl_pool_tempreserve_space() and
txg_constrain_throughput()) is rewritten to produce much more consistent delays
when under constant load.  The new write throttle is based on the amount of
dirty data, rather than guesses about future performance of the system.  When
there is a lot of dirty data, each transaction (e.g. write() syscall) will be
delayed by the same small amount.  This eliminates the "brick wall of wait"
that the old write throttle could hit, causing all transactions to wait several
seconds until the next txg opens.  One of the keys to the new write throttle is
decrementing the amount of dirty data as i/o completes, rather than at the end
of spa_sync().  Note that the write throttle is only applied once the i/o
scheduler is issuing the maximum number of outstanding async writes.  See the
block comments in dsl_pool.c and above dmu_tx_delay() (reproduced below) for
more details.

This diff has several other effects, including:

 * the commonly-tuned global variable zfs_vdev_max_pending has been removed;
use per-class zfs_vdev_*_max_active values or zfs_vdev_max_active instead.

 * the size of each txg (meaning the amount of dirty data written, and thus the
time it takes to write out) is now controlled differently.  There is no longer
an explicit time goal; the primary determinant is amount of dirty data.
Systems that are under light or medium load will now often see that a txg is
always syncing, but the impact to performance (e.g. read latency) is minimal.
Tune zfs_dirty_data_max and zfs_dirty_data_sync to control this.

 * zio_taskq_batch_pct = 75 -- Only use 75% of all CPUs for compression,
checksum, etc.  This improves latency by not allowing these CPU-intensive tasks
to consume all CPU (on machines with at least 4 CPU's; the percentage is
rounded up).

APPENDIX: problems with the current i/o scheduler

The current ZFS i/o scheduler (vdev_queue.c) is deadline based.  The problem
with this is that if there are always i/os pending, then certain classes of
i/os can see very long delays.

For example, if there are always synchronous reads outstanding, then no async
writes will be serviced until they become "past due".  One symptom of this
situation is that each pass of the txg sync takes at least several seconds
(typically 3 seconds).

If many i/os become "past due" (their deadline is in the past), then we must
service all of these overdue i/os before any new i/os.  This happens when we
enqueue a batch of async writes for the txg sync, with deadlines 2.5 seconds in
the future.  If we can't complete all the i/os in 2.5 seconds (e.g. because
there were always reads pending), then these i/os will become past due.  Now we
must service all the "async" writes (which could be hundreds of megabytes)
before we service any reads, introducing considerable latency to synchronous
i/os (reads or ZIL writes).

Notes on porting to ZFS on Linux:

- zio_t gained new members io_physdone and io_phys_children.  Because
  object caches in the Linux port call the constructor only once at
  allocation time, objects may contain residual data when retrieved
  from the cache. Therefore zio_create() was updated to zero out the two
  new fields.

- vdev_mirror_pending() relied on the depth of the per-vdev pending queue
  (vq->vq_pending_tree) to select the least-busy leaf vdev to read from.
  This tree has been replaced by vq->vq_active_tree which is now used
  for the same purpose.

- vdev_queue_init() used the value of zfs_vdev_max_pending to determine
  the number of vdev I/O buffers to pre-allocate.  That global no longer
  exists, so we instead use the sum of the *_max_active values for each of
  the five I/O classes described above.

- The Illumos implementation of dmu_tx_delay() delays a transaction by
  sleeping in condition variable embedded in the thread
  (curthread->t_delay_cv).  We do not have an equivalent CV to use in
  Linux, so this change replaced the delay logic with a wrapper called
  zfs_sleep_until(). This wrapper could be adopted upstream and in other
  downstream ports to abstract away operating system-specific delay logic.

- These tunables are added as module parameters, and descriptions added
  to the zfs-module-parameters.5 man page.

  The latter four have type unsigned long, whereas they are uint64_t in
  Illumos.  This accommodates Linux's module_param() supported types, but
  means they may overflow on 32-bit architectures.

  The values zfs_dirty_data_max and zfs_dirty_data_max_max are the most
  likely to overflow on 32-bit systems, since they express physical RAM
  sizes in bytes.  In fact, Illumos initializes zfs_dirty_data_max_max to
  2^32 which does overflow. To resolve that, this port instead initializes
  it in arc_init() to 25% of physical RAM, and adds the tunable
  zfs_dirty_data_max_max_percent to override that percentage.  While this
  solution doesn't completely avoid the overflow issue, it should be a
  reasonable default for most systems, and the minority of affected
  systems can work around the issue by overriding the defaults.

- Fixed reversed logic in comment above zfs_delay_scale declaration.

- Clarified comments in vdev_queue.c regarding when per-queue minimums take
  effect.

- Replaced dmu_tx_write_limit in the dmu_tx kstat file
  with dmu_tx_dirty_delay and dmu_tx_dirty_over_max.  The first counts
  how many times a transaction has been delayed because the pool dirty
  data has exceeded zfs_delay_min_dirty_percent.  The latter counts how
  many times the pool dirty data has exceeded zfs_dirty_data_max (which
  we expect to never happen).

- The original patch would have regressed the bug fixed in
  zfsonlinux/zfs@c418410, which prevented users from setting the
  zfs_vdev_aggregation_limit tuning larger than SPA_MAXBLOCKSIZE.
  A similar fix is added to vdev_queue_aggregate().

- In vdev_queue_io_to_issue(), dynamically allocate 'zio_t search' on the
  heap instead of the stack.  In Linux we can't afford such large
  structures on the stack.

119a394ab0 Only commit the ZIL once in zpl_writepages() (msync() case).
Currently, using msync() results in the following code path:

    sys_msync -> zpl_fsync -> filemap_write_and_wait_range -> zpl_writepages -> write_cache_pages -> zpl_putpage

In such a code path, zil_commit() is called as part of zpl_putpage().
This means that for each page, the write is handed to the DMU, the ZIL
is committed, and only then do we move on to the next page. As one might
imagine, this results in atrocious performance where there is a large
number of pages to write: instead of committing a batch of N writes,
we do N commits containing one page each. In some extreme cases this
can result in msync() being ~700 times slower than it should be, as well
as very inefficient use of ZIL resources.

This patch fixes this issue by making sure that the requested writes
are batched and then committed only once. Unfortunately, the
implementation is somewhat non-trivial because there is no way to run
write_cache_pages in SYNC mode (so that we get all pages) without
making it wait on the writeback tag for each page.

The solution implemented here is composed of two parts:

 - I added a new callback system to the ZIL, which allows the caller to
   be notified when its ITX gets written to stable storage. One nice
   thing is that the callback is called not only in zil_commit() but
   in zil_sync() as well, which means that the caller doesn't have to
   care whether the write ended up in the ZIL or the DMU: it will get
   notified as soon as it's safe, period. This is an improvement over
   dmu_tx_callback_register() that was used previously, which only
   supports DMU writes. The rationale for this change is to allow
   zpl_putpage() to be notified when a ZIL commit is completed without
   having to block on zil_commit() itself.

 - zpl_writepages() now calls write_cache_pages in non-SYNC mode, which
   will prevent (1) write_cache_pages from blocking, and (2) zpl_putpage
   from issuing ZIL commits. zpl_writepages() will issue the commit
   itself instead of relying on zpl_putpage() to do it, thus nicely
   batching the writes. Note, however, that we still have to call
   write_cache_pages() again in SYNC mode because there is an edge case
   documented in the implementation of write_cache_pages() whereas it
   will not give us all dirty pages when running in non-SYNC mode. Thus
   we need to run it at least once in SYNC mode to make sure we honor
   persistency guarantees. This only happens when the pages are
   modified at the same time msync() is running, which should be rare.
   In most cases there won't be any additional pages and this second
   call will do nothing.

Note that this change also fixes a bug related to #907 whereas calling
msync() on pages that were already handed over to the DMU in a previous
writepages() call would make msync() block until the next TXG sync
instead of returning as soon as the ZIL commit is complete. The new
callback system fixes that problem.

023699cd62 Posix ACL Support
This change adds support for Posix ACLs by storing them as an xattr
which is common practice for many Linux file systems.  Since the
Posix ACL is stored as an xattr it will not overwrite any existing
ZFS/NFSv4 ACLs which may have been set.  The Posix ACL will also
be non-functional on other platforms although it may be visible
as an xattr if that platform understands SA based xattrs.

By default Posix ACLs are disabled but they may be enabled with
the new 'aclmode=noacl|posixacl' property.  Set the property to
'posixacl' to enable them.  If ZFS/NFSv4 ACL support is ever added
an appropriate acltype will be added.

This change passes the POSIX Test Suite cleanly with the exception
of xacl/00.t test 45 which is incorrect for Linux (Ext4 fails too).

c12e3a594a Restructure zfs_readdir() to fix regressions
This does the following:

1. It creates a uint8_t type value, which is initialized to DT_DIR on
dot directories and ZFS_DIRENT_TYPE(zap.za_first_integer) otherwise.
This resolves a regression where we return unintialized values as the
directory entry type on dot directories. This was accidentally
introduced by commit 8170d28126.

2. It restructures zfs_readdir() code to use `uint64_t offset` like
Illumos instead of `loff_t *pos`. This resolves a regression where
negative ZAP cursors were treated as if they were dot directories.

3. It restructures the function to more closely match the structure of
zfs_readdir() on Illumos and removes the unused variable outcount, which
was only used on Illumos.

0f37d0c8be Linux 3.11 compat: fops->iterate()
Commit torvalds/linux@2233f31aad
replaced ->readdir() with ->iterate() in struct file_operations.
All filesystems must now use the new ->iterate method.

To handle this the code was reworked to use the new ->iterate
interface.  Care was taken to keep the majority of changes
confined to the ZPL layer which is already Linux specific.
However, minor changes were required to the common zfs_readdir()
function.

Compatibility with older kernels was accomplished by adding
versions of the trivial dir_emit* helper functions.  Also the
various *_readdir() functions were reworked in to wrappers
which create a dir_context structure to pass to the new
*_iterate() functions.

Unfortunately, the new dir_emit* functions prevent us from
passing a private pointer to the filldir function.  The xattr
directory code leveraged this ability through zfs_readdir()
to generate the list of xattr names.  Since we can no longer
use zfs_readdir() a simplified zpl_xattr_readdir() function
was added to perform the same task.

8170d28126 Return correct type and offset from zfs_readdir
zfs_readdir() is used by getdents(), which provides a list of all files
in directory, their types and an offset that be used by llseek() to seek
to the next directory entry.

On Solaris, the first two directory entries "." and ".." respectively
have offsets 1 and 2 on ZFS while the other files have rather large
numbers. Currently, ZFSOnLinux is  giving "." offset 0 and all other
entries large numbers. The first entry's next entry offset points to
itself, which causes software that uses llseek() in conjunction with
getdents() for filesystem navigation to enter an infinite loop.  The
offsets used for each directory entry are filesystem specific on all
platforms, so we can fix this by adopting the Solaris behavior.

Also, we currently report each directory entry as having type 0 (???).
This is not wrong, but we can do better. getdents() on Solaris does not
appear to provide this information, but it does on Linux and Mac OS X
do. ZFS provides easy access to type information in zfs_readdir(), so
this patch provides this as well.

802e7b5feb Add SEEK_DATA/SEEK_HOLE to lseek()/llseek()
The approach taken was the rework zfs_holey() as little as
possible and then just wrap the code as needed to ensure
correct locking and error handling.

Tested with xfstests 285 and 286.  All tests pass except for
7-9 of 285 which try to reserve blocks first via fallocate(2)
and fail because fallocate(2) is not yet supported.

Note that the filp->f_lock spinlock did not exist prior to
Linux 2.6.30, but we avoid the need for autotools check by
virtue of the fact that SEEK_DATA/SEEK_HOLE support was not
added until Linux 3.1.

An autoconf check was added for lseek_execute() which is
currently a private function but the expectation is that it
will be exported perhaps as early as Linux 3.11.

cf91b2b6b2 Readd zfs_holey() from OpenSolaris
This patch restores the zfs_holey() function from OpenSolaris.
This was removed by commit 3558fd7 because it wasn't clear we
had a use for it in ZoL.  However, this functionality is a
prerequisite for adding SEEK_DATA/SEEK_HOLE support to the ZPL.

31f2b5abdf Remove TSD zfs_fsyncer_key
It's my understanding that the zfs_fsyncer_key TSD was added as
a performance omtimization to reduce contention on the zl_lock
from zil_commit().  This issue manifested itself as very long
(100+ms) fsync() system call times for fsync() heavy workloads.

However, under Linux I'm not seeing the same contention that
was originally described.  Therefore, I'm removing this code
in order to ween ourselves off any dependence on TSD.  If the
original performance issue reappears on Linux we can revisit
fixing it without resorting to TSD.

This just leaves one small ZFS TSD consumer.  If it can be
cleanly removed from the code we'll be able to shed the SPL
TSD implementation entirely.

8780c53961 Update SAs when an inode is dirtied
Revert the portion of commit d3aa3ea which always resulted in the
SAs being update when an mmap()'ed file was closed.  That change
accidentally resulted in unexpected ctime updates which upset tools
like git.  That was always a horrible hack and I'm happy it will
never make it in to a tagged release.

The right fix is something I initially resisted doing because I
was worried about the additional overhead.  However, in hindsight
the overhead isn't as bad as I feared.

This patch implemented the sops->dirty_inode() callback which is
unsurprisingly called when an inode is dirtied.  We leverage this
callback to keep the znode SAs strictly in sync with the inode.

However, for now we're going to go slowly to avoid introducing
any new unexpected issues by only updating the atime, mtime, and
ctime.  This will cover the callpath of most concern to us.

  ->filemap_page_mkwrite->file_update_time->update_time->
      mark_inode_dirty_sync->__mark_inode_dirty->dirty_inode

d3aa3ea96e Preserve inode mtime/ctime in .writepage()
When updating a file via mmap()'ed I/O preserve the mtime/ctime
which were updated when the page was made writable by the generic
callback filemap_page_mkwrite().

But more importantly than preserving the exact time add the missing
call to sa_bulk_update().  This ensures that the znode modifications
are written to disk as part of the transaction.  Without this the
inode may mistaken rollback to the previous on-disk znode state.

Additionally, for mmap()'ed znodes explicitly set the atime, mtime,
and ctime on close using the up to date values in the inode.  This
is critical because writepage() may occur after close and on close
we need to ensure the values are correct.

4c837f0d93 Fix "allocating allocated segment" panic
Gunnar Beutner did all the hard work on this one by correctly
identifying that this issue is a race between dmu_sync() and
dbuf_dirty().

Now in all cases the caller is responsible for preventing this
race by making sure the zfs_range_lock() is held when dirtying
a buffer which may be referenced in a log record.  The mmap
case which relies on zfs_putpage() was not taking the range
lock.  This code was accidentally dropped when the function
was rewritten for the Linux VFS.

This patch adds the required range locking to zfs_putpage().

It also adds the missing ZFS_ENTER()/ZFS_EXIT() macros which
aren't strictly required due to the VFS holding a reference.
However, this makes the code more consistent with the upsteam
code and there's no harm in being extra careful here.
