Introduce four new vdev properties:
checksum_n
checksum_t
io_n
io_t
These properties can be used for configuring the thresholds of zed's
diagnosis engine and are interpeted as <N> events in T <seconds>.
When this property is set to a non-default value on a top-level vdev,
those thresholds will also apply to its leaf vdevs. This behavior can be
overridden by explicitly setting the property on the leaf vdev.
Note that, these properties do not persist across vdev replacement. For
this reason, it is advisable to set the property on the top-level vdev
instead of the leaf vdev.
The default values for zed's diagnosis engine (10 events, 600 seconds)
remains unchanged.

Closes#13805
In #13871, zfs_vdev_aggregation_limit_non_rotating and
zfs_vdev_aggregation_limit being signed was pointed out as a possible
reason not to eliminate an unnecessary MAX(unsigned, 0) since the
unsigned value was assigned from them.
There is no reason for these module parameters to be signed and upon
inspection, it was found that there are a number of other module
parameters that are signed, but should not be, so we make them unsigned.
Making them unsigned made it clear that some other variables in the code
should also be unsigned, so we also make those unsigned. This prevents
users from setting negative values that could potentially cause bad
behaviors. It also makes the code slightly easier to understand.
Mostly module parameters that deal with timeouts, limits, bitshifts and
percentages are made unsigned by this. Any that are boolean are left
signed, since whether booleans should be considered signed or unsigned
does not matter.
Making zfs_arc_lotsfree_percent unsigned caused a
`zfs_arc_lotsfree_percent >= 0` check to become redundant, so it was
removed. Removing the check was also necessary to prevent a compiler
error from -Werror=type-limits.
Several end of line comments had to be moved to their own lines because
replacing int with uint_t caused us to exceed the 80 character limit
enforced by cstyle.pl.
The following were kept signed because they are passed to
taskq_create(), which expects signed values and modifying the
OpenSolaris/Illumos DDI is out of scope of this patch:
* metaslab_load_pct
* zfs_sync_taskq_batch_pct
* zfs_zil_clean_taskq_nthr_pct
* zfs_zil_clean_taskq_minalloc
* zfs_zil_clean_taskq_maxalloc
* zfs_arc_prune_task_threads
Also, negative values in those parameters was found to be harmless.
The following were left signed because either negative values make
sense, or more analysis was needed to determine whether negative values
should be disallowed:
* zfs_metaslab_switch_threshold
* zfs_pd_bytes_max
* zfs_livelist_min_percent_shared
zfs_multihost_history was made static to be consistent with other
parameters.
A number of module parameters were marked as signed, but in reality
referenced unsigned variables. upgrade_errlog_limit is one of the
numerous examples. In the case of zfs_vdev_async_read_max_active, it was
already uint32_t, but zdb had an extern int declaration for it.
Interestingly, the documentation in zfs.4 was right for
upgrade_errlog_limit despite the module parameter being wrongly marked,
while the documentation for zfs_vdev_async_read_max_active (and friends)
was wrong. It was also wrong for zstd_abort_size, which was unsigned,
but was documented as signed.
Also, the documentation in zfs.4 incorrectly described the following
parameters as ulong when they were int:
* zfs_arc_meta_adjust_restarts
* zfs_override_estimate_recordsize
They are now uint_t as of this patch and thus the man page has been
updated to describe them as uint.
dbuf_state_index was left alone since it does nothing and perhaps should
be removed in another patch.
If any module parameters were missed, they were not found by `grep -r
'ZFS_MODULE_PARAM' | grep ', INT'`. I did find a few that grep missed,
but only because they were in files that had hits.
This patch intentionally did not attempt to address whether some of
these module parameters should be elevated to 64-bit parameters, because
the length of a long on 32-bit is 32-bit.
Lastly, it was pointed out during review that uint_t is a better match
for these variables than uint32_t because FreeBSD kernel parameter
definitions are designed for uint_t, whose bit width can change in
future memory models. As a result, we change the existing parameters
that are uint32_t to use uint_t.

Callers of zfs_file_get and zfs_file_put can corrupt the reference
counts for the file structure resulting in a panic or a soft lockup.
When zfs send/recv runs, it will add a reference count to the
open file, and begin to send or recv the stream. If the file descriptor
is closed, then when dmu_recv_stream() or dmu_send() return we will
call zfs_file_put to remove the reference we placed on the file
structure. Unfortunately, because zfs_file_put() uses the file
descriptor to lookup the file structure, it may end up finding that
the file descriptor table no longer contains the file struct, thus
leaking the file structure. Or it might end up finding a file
descriptor for a different file and blindly updating its reference
counts. Other failure modes probably exists.
This change reworks the zfs_file_[get|put] interface to not rely
on the file descriptor but instead pass the zfs_file_t pointer around.

Duplicate io and checksum ereport events can misrepresent that
things are worse than they seem. Ideally the zpool events and the
corresponding vdev stat error counts in a zpool status should be
for unique errors -- not the same error being counted over and over.
This can be demonstrated in a simple example. With a single bad
block in a datafile and just 5 reads of the file we end up with a
degraded vdev, even though there is only one unique error in the pool.
The proposed solution to the above issue, is to eliminate duplicates
when posting events and when updating vdev error stats. We now save
recent error events of interest when posting events so that we can
easily check for duplicates when posting an error.

Closes#7556
The intent of this patch is extend the existing deadman code
such that it's flexible enough to be used by both ztest and
on production systems. The proposed changes include:
* Added a new `zfs_deadman_failmode` module option which is
used to dynamically control the behavior of the deadman. It's
loosely modeled after, but independant from, the pool failmode
property. It can be set to wait, continue, or panic.
* wait - Wait for the "hung" I/O (default)
* continue - Attempt to recover from a "hung" I/O
* panic - Panic the system
* Added a new `zfs_deadman_ziotime_ms` module option which is
analogous to `zfs_deadman_synctime_ms` except instead of
applying to a pool TXG sync it applies to zio_wait(). A
default value of 300s is used to define a "hung" zio.
* The ztest deadman thread has been re-enabled by default,
aligned with the upstream OpenZFS code, and then extended
to terminate the process when it takes significantly longer
to complete than expected.
* The -G option was added to ztest to print the internal debug
log when a fatal error is encountered. This same option was
previously added to zdb in commit fa603f82. Update zloop.sh
to unconditionally pass -G to obtain additional debugging.
* The FM_EREPORT_ZFS_DELAY event which was previously posted
when the deadman detect a "hung" pool has been replaced by
a new dedicated FM_EREPORT_ZFS_DEADMAN event.
* The proposed recovery logic attempts to restart a "hung"
zio by calling zio_interrupt() on any outstanding leaf zios.
We may want to further restrict this to zios in either the
ZIO_STAGE_VDEV_IO_START or ZIO_STAGE_VDEV_IO_DONE stages.
Calling zio_interrupt() is expected to only be useful for
cases when an IO has been submitted to the physical device
but for some reasonable the completion callback hasn't been
called by the lower layers. This shouldn't be possible but
has been observed and may be caused by kernel/driver bugs.
* The 'zfs_deadman_synctime_ms' default value was reduced from
1000s to 600s.
* Depending on how ztest fails there may be no cache file to
move. This should not be considered fatal, collect the logs
which are available and carry on.
* Add deadman test cases for spa_deadman() and zio_wait().
* Increase default zfs_deadman_checktime_ms to 60s.

This change incorporates three major pieces:
The first change is a keystore that manages wrapping
and encryption keys for encrypted datasets. These
commands mostly involve manipulating the new
DSL Crypto Key ZAP Objects that live in the MOS. Each
encrypted dataset has its own DSL Crypto Key that is
protected with a user's key. This level of indirection
allows users to change their keys without re-encrypting
their entire datasets. The change implements the new
subcommands "zfs load-key", "zfs unload-key" and
"zfs change-key" which allow the user to manage their
encryption keys and settings. In addition, several new
flags and properties have been added to allow dataset
creation and to make mounting and unmounting more
convenient.
The second piece of this patch provides the ability to
encrypt, decyrpt, and authenticate protected datasets.
Each object set maintains a Merkel tree of Message
Authentication Codes that protect the lower layers,
similarly to how checksums are maintained. This part
impacts the zio layer, which handles the actual
encryption and generation of MACs, as well as the ARC
and DMU, which need to be able to handle encrypted
buffers and protected data.
The last addition is the ability to do raw, encrypted
sends and receives. The idea here is to send raw
encrypted and compressed data and receive it exactly
as is on a backup system. This means that the dataset
on the receiving system is protected using the same
user key that is in use on the sending side. By doing
so, datasets can be efficiently backed up to an
untrusted system without fear of data being
compromised.

Previously when a drive faulted, the statechange-led.sh script would lookup
the drive's LED sysfs entry in /sys/block/sd*/device/enclosure_device, and
turn it on. During testing we noticed that if you pulled out a drive, or if
the drive was so badly broken that it no longer appeared to Linux, that the
/sys/block/sd* path would be removed, and the script could not lookup the
LED entry.
To fix this, this patch looks up the disks's more persistent
"/sys/class/enclosure/X:X:X:X/Slot N" LED sysfs path at pool import. It then
passes that path to the statechange-led script to use, rather than having the
script look it up on the fly. This allows the script to turn on/off the slot
LEDs even when the drive is missing.

Closes#2158
When a vdev starts getting I/O or checksum errors it is now
possible to automatically rebuild to a hot spare device.
To cleanly support this functionality in a shell script some
additional information was added to all zevent ereports which
include a vdev. This covers both io and checksum zevents but
may be used but other scripts.
In the Illumos FMA solution the same information is required
but it is retrieved through the libzfs library interface.
Specifically the following members were added:
vdev_spare_paths - List of vdev paths for all hot spares.
vdev_spare_guids - List of vdev guids for all hot spares.
vdev_read_errors - Read errors for the problematic vdev
vdev_write_errors - Write errors for the problematic vdev
vdev_cksum_errors - Checksum errors for the problematic vdev.
By default the required hot spare scripts are installed but this
functionality is disabled. To enable hot sparing uncomment the
ZED_SPARE_ON_IO_ERRORS and ZED_SPARE_ON_CHECKSUM_ERRORS in the
/etc/zfs/zed.d/zed.rc configuration file.
These scripts do no add support for the autoexpand property. At
a minimum this requires adding a new udev rule to detect when
a new device is added to the system. It also requires that the
autoexpand policy be ported from Illumos, see:

Issue #2
The ZFS_IOC_EVENTS_SEEK ioctl was added to allow user space callers
to seek around the zevent file descriptor by EID. When a specific
EID is passed and it exists the cursor will be positioned there.
If the EID is no longer cached by the kernel ENOENT is returned.
The caller may also pass ZEVENT_SEEK_START or ZEVENT_SEEK_END to seek
to those respective locations.

Tagging each zevent with a unique monotonically increasing EID
(Event IDentifier) provides the required infrastructure for a user
space daemon to reliably process zevents. By writing the EID to
persistent storage the daemon can safely resume where it left off
in the event stream when it's restarted.

The vast majority of these changes are in Linux specific code.
They are the result of not having an automated style checker to
validate the code when it was originally written. Others were
caused when the common code was slightly adjusted for Linux.
This patch contains no functional changes. It only refreshes
the code to conform to style guide.
Everyone submitting patches for inclusion upstream should now
run 'make checkstyle' and resolve any warning prior to opening
a pull request. The automated builders have been updated to
fail a build if when 'make checkstyle' detects an issue.

NOTES: This patch has been reworked from the original in the
following ways to accomidate Linux ZFS implementation
*) Usage of the cyclic interface was replaced by the delayed taskq
interface. This avoids the need to implement new compatibility
code and allows us to rely on the existing taskq implementation.
*) An extern for zfs_txg_synctime_ms was added to sys/dsl_pool.h
because declaring externs in source files as was done in the
original patch is just plain wrong.
*) Instead of panicing the system when the deadman triggers a
zevent describing the blocked vdev and the first pending I/O
is posted. If the panic behavior is desired Linux provides
other generic methods to panic the system when threads are
observed to hang.
*) For reference, to delay zios by 30 seconds for testing you can
use zinject as follows: 'zinject -d <vdev> -D30 <pool>'

Install the common zfs kernel development headers under
/usr/src/zfs-<version>/ rather than in a kernel specific
directory. The kernel specific build products such as
zfs_config.h and Modules.symvers are left installed under
/usr/src/zfs-<version>/<kernel>.
This was done to be consistent with where dkms expects
kernel module source to be packaged. It also allows for
a common zfs-kmod-devel package which includes the headers,
and per-kernel zfs-kmod-devel-<kernel> packages.

https://www.illumos.org/issues/2671
This patch has been slightly modified from the upstream Illumos
version. In the upstream implementation a warning message is
logged to the console. To prevent pointless console noise this
notification is now posted as a "ereport.fs.zfs.vdev.bad_ashift"
event.
The event indicates a non-optimial (but entirely safe) ashift
value was used to create the pool. Depending on your workload
this may impact pool performance. Unfortunately, the only way
to correct the issue is to recreate the pool with a new ashift.
NOTE: The unrelated fix to the comment in zpool_main.c appears
in the upstream commit and was preserved for consistnecy.

There have been reports of ZFS deadlocking due to what appears to
be a lost IO. This patch addes some debugging to determine the
exact state of the IO which neither 1) completed, 2) failed, or
3) timed out after zio_delay_max (30) seconds.
This information will be logged using the ZFS FMA infrastructure
as a 'delay' event and posted to the internal zevent log. By
default the last 64 events will be kept in the log but the limit
is configurable via the zfs_zevent_len_max module option.
To dump the contents of the log use the 'zpool events -v' command
and look for the resource.fs.zfs.delay event. It will include
various information about the pool, vdev, and zio which may shed
some light on the issue.
In the context of this change the 120 second kernel blocked thread
watchdog has been disabled for synchronous IOs.

Currently, zvols have a discard granularity set to 0, which suggests to
the upper layer that discard requests of arbirarily small size and
alignment can be made efficiently.
In practice however, ZFS does not handle unaligned discard requests
efficiently: indeed, it is unable to free a part of a block. It will
write zeros to the specified range instead, which is both useless and
inefficient (see dnode_free_range).
With this patch, zvol block devices expose volblocksize as their discard
granularity, so the upper layer is aware that it's not supposed to send
discard requests smaller than volblocksize.

The end_writeback() function was changed by moving the call to
inode_sync_wait() earlier in to evict(). This effecitvely changes
the ordering of the sync but it does not impact the details of
the zfs implementation.
However, as part of this change end_writeback() was renamed to
clear_inode() to reflect the new semantics. This change does
impact us and clear_inode() now maps to end_writeback() for
kernels prior to 3.5.

Currently, zpool online -e (dynamic vdev expansion) doesn't work on
whole disks because we're invoking ioctl(BLKRRPART) from userspace
while ZFS still has a partition open on the disk, which results in
EBUSY.
This patch moves the BLKRRPART invocation from the zpool utility to the
module. Specifically, this is done just before opening the device in
vdev_disk_open() which is called inside vdev_reopen(). This requires
jumping through some hoops to get to the disk device from the partition
device, and to make sure we can still open the partition after the
BLKRRPART call.
Note that this new code path is triggered on dynamic vdev expansion
only; other actions, like creating a new pool, are unchanged and still
call BLKRRPART from userspace.
This change also depends on API changes which are available in 2.6.37
and latter kernels. The build system has been updated to detect this,
but there is no compatibility mode for older kernels. This means that
online expansion will NOT be available in older kernels. However, it
will still be possible to expand the vdev offline.

torvalds/linux@adc0e91ab1 introduced
introduced d_make_root() as a replacement for d_alloc_root(). Further
commits appear to have removed d_alloc_root() from the Linux source
tree. This causes the following failure:
error: implicit declaration of function 'd_alloc_root'
[-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
To correct this we update the code to use the current d_make_root()
interface for readability. Then we introduce an autotools check
to determine if d_make_root() is available. If it isn't then we
define some compatibility logic which used the older d_alloc_root()
interface.

Allow rigorous (and expensive) tx validation to be enabled/disabled
indepentantly from the standard zfs debugging. When enabled these
checks ensure that all txs are constructed properly and that a dbuf
is never dirtied without taking the correct tx hold.
This checking is particularly helpful when adding new dmu consumers
like Lustre. However, for established consumers such as the zpl
with no known outstanding tx construction problems this is just
overhead.
--enable-debug-dmu-tx - Enable/disable validation of each tx as
--disable-debug-dmu-tx it is constructed. By default validation
is disabled due to performance concerns.

Add support for the .zfs control directory. This was accomplished
by leveraging as much of the existing ZFS infrastructure as posible
and updating it for Linux as required. The bulk of the core
functionality is now all there with the following limitations.
*) The .zfs/snapshot directory automount support requires a 2.6.37
or newer kernel. The exception is RHEL6.2 which has backported
the d_automount patches.
*) Creating/destroying/renaming snapshots with mkdir/rmdir/mv
in the .zfs/snapshot directory works as expected. However,
this functionality is only available to root until zfs
delegations are finished.
* mkdir - create a snapshot
* rmdir - destroy a snapshot
* mv - rename a snapshot
The following issues are known defeciences, but we expect them to
be addressed by future commits.
*) Add automount support for kernels older the 2.6.37. This should
be possible using follow_link() which is what Linux did before.
*) Accessing the .zfs/snapshot directory via NFS is not yet possible.
The majority of the ground work for this is complete. However,
finishing this work will require resolving some lingering
integration issues with the Linux NFS kernel server.
*) The .zfs/shares directory exists but no futher smb functionality
has yet been implemented.

DISCARD (REQ_DISCARD, BLKDISCARD) is useful for thin provisioning.
It allows ZVOL clients to discard (unmap, trim) block ranges from
a ZVOL, thus optimizing disk space usage by allowing a ZVOL to
shrink instead of just grow.
We can't use zfs_space() or zfs_freesp() here, since these functions
only work on regular files, not volumes. Fortunately we can use the
low-level function dmu_free_long_range() which does exactly what we
want.
Currently the discard operation is not added to the log. That's not
a big deal since losing discard requests cannot result in data
corruption. It would however result in disk space usage higher than
it should be. Thus adding log support to zvol_discard() is probably
a good idea for a future improvement.

Currently only the (FALLOC_FL_PUNCH_HOLE) flag combination is
supported, since it's the only one that matches the behavior of
zfs_space(). This makes it pretty much useless in its current
form, but it's a start.
To support other flag combinations we would need to modify
zfs_space() to make it more flexible, or emulate the desired
functionality in zpl_fallocate().

Issue #334
The Linux block device queue subsystem exposes a number of configurable
settings described in Linux block/blk-settings.c. The defaults for these
settings are tuned for hard drives, and are not optimized for ZVOLs. Proper
configuration of these options would allow upper layers (I/O scheduler) to
take better decisions about write merging and ordering.
Detailed rationale:
- max_hw_sectors is set to unlimited (UINT_MAX). zvol_write() is able to
handle writes of any size, so there's no reason to impose a limit. Let the
upper layer decide.
- max_segments and max_segment_size are set to unlimited. zvol_write() will
copy the requests' contents into a dbuf anyway, so the number and size of
the segments are irrelevant. Let the upper layer decide.
- physical_block_size and io_opt are set to the ZVOL's block size. This
has the potential to somewhat alleviate issue #361 for ZVOLs, by warning
the upper layers that writes smaller than the volume's block size will be
slow.
- The NONROT flag is set to indicate this isn't a rotational device.
Although the backing zpool might be composed of rotational devices, the
resulting ZVOL often doesn't exhibit the same behavior due to the COW
mechanisms used by ZFS. Setting this flag will prevent upper layers from
making useless decisions (such as reordering writes) based on incorrect
assumptions about the behavior of the ZVOL.
